It has served the United States for more than two hundred years. It is the 3d oldest regiment in the US Army with a Lineage date of 1808 and a history extending back to 1791. At present the regiment has 65 streamers on its colors.

  1. The "old Guard" or 3rd Inf Reg is also responsible for the protecting of fallen soldiers. i.e. Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier... This is why all members of the "Old Guard" wear the blue tab with white lettering "Honor Guard."
